![]() ![]() The G4560 has never quite been the price it should have been. Again, all of this is sort of killed by the pricing: RAM prices are 2x what they should be, as you can see in our recent RAM price investigation video and article. At the time, we were able to price-out a $531 PC, after rebates, with a $157 1050 Ti, a $90 B250 motherboard, a G4560, and some other parts. This is an experiment that we started back before the pricing surge in everything on the market. $24 on sale (any cheap ATX case in this price range works) $89 (overpriced, but will probably remain that way due to demand) MSI 1050Ti 4GB (NVIDIA driver version 388.71)Ībout $157 (currently way more due to mining craze, but some other 1050Tis are priced reasonably)ġx8GB CMK32GX4MB3200C16 2133 CL 14-14-14-34 (to emulate a cheaper kit) DIY PCs stand to lose marketshare if people can’t afford to build a cheap machine, and so we thought we’d use our new in-house software to benchmark a low-end PC and an Xbox One X. Given the recent insanoland surge in RAM and GPU prices, the argument is more poignant than ever. We tested whether the 4K-capable Xbox One X is “better” than an equivalently priced PC, judging by framerates in two of the Xbox’s first batch of 4K-enabled games, Destiny 2 and Assassin’s Creed: Origins. By popular demand*, then, we’ve built a $500 PC to compare to the Xbox One X (list price: $500) in performance. It’s a reasonable argument, and it’s the basis on which consoles are sold these days. The pro-console responses to our first Xbox One X tests usually boiled down to: “it’s still better than a $500 PC.” ![]() PCs are described as expensive, bulky, and difficult to assemble or work with, while consoles are called underpowered, underperforming systems that hold game development back for the duration of each generation. FSR 2.1 vs.PC versus console is an ancient debate, long discussed by the wisest and most scholarly of YouTube commenters. However, the PC version of the game has been suffering from various issues, like crashes during shader compile, driver crashes, game crashes and more. The same goes to the game's environments, which are more richly detailed and better lit. ![]() Most of the game's assets are redone, with higher poly-counts, higher-resolution textures, and a more organic look. The Last of Us Part I, curiously enough, is based the most advanced version of the proprietary engine that powers The Last of Us Part II (2020), which is where the idea to remake the 2013 original as "Part I" based on new technology came from. There are many twists and turns in this journey that are better left explored by yourself. Your journey takes you across a battered, post-apocalyptic hellscape, with equal measure of urban and suburban locales. You are sent on a mission to rescue and exfiltrate a young girl who is seemingly immune to the disease, so the last remaining humans could develop a cure with her help. A highly contagious outbreak has turned mankind into feral, mindless zombies. The setting of the Last of Us is very similar to some of the best Resident Evil games out there, although the story is vastly different. For those who did, there's still enough going on in the way of new gameplay mechanics, and jaw-dropping visuals that help you relive the experience. The game now also incorporates a custom rendering tech that creates reflection effects similar to ray tracing (it is not actual ray tracing)- If you haven't played the 2013 original, The Last of Us Part I should come as a revelation in gameplay and storytelling. The game has been rebuilt on a new-generation game engine, with mostly new assets, highly-detailed environments and models vastly improved visual effects and lighting and updated gameplay. The Last of Us Part I is a 2022 remake of the PlayStation-exclusive from 2013, which is now available for the PC platform, in 2023. The original game from 2013 gathered critical acclaim, and has even been adapted to other forms of media, such as TV shows. IntroductionThe Last of Us is a good example for how game studios from Sony's PlayStation ecosystem tend to produce releases that go beyond just game mechanics and become works of interactive art. ![]()
